For cocktail lovers, Negroni week is one of the highlights of the year. It’s a time when bars across the world focus on celebrating the storied cocktail with classic, and modern twists on what could arguably be called the best cocktail ever created.
Obviously, this year things are a little different, and particularly difficult to celebrate in-person for some areas of the world. With that being said, we couldn’t just cancel Negroni week all together, in fact, we all could really use that drink!
Fortunately, the Campari Group was of the same mind, and have shifted to a week of virtual events to help lift our spirits. Here in Canada, #NegroniWeek 2020 will run virtually between September 14th-20th with a new charitable cause focused on raising much-needed funds for bar and restaurant workers impacted by COVID-19.
What does a virtual Negroni week look like? How about Negroni Masterclasses hosted on Zoom, where you get to sit back and sip your homemade Negronis while learning how to prepare delicious Negroni food pairings with Canada’s top bartenders and chefs. Throughout the week learn from masters like Chef Rob Gentile, Sandy De Almeida, Mujine Pak, James Grant and the team at Bar George about the art of aperitivos and how to craft the perfect Negroni. Each class is ‘pay what you can,’ with proceeds going towards the Bartender Benevolent Fund, a national, Canadian charity born in response to the pandemic that provides funding to bartenders who have fallen under serious financial hardship.
For those that can’t attend the Masterclasses, Campari is also donating $1 of every bottle sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia. Better yet, they’ll donate another $1 for every Negroni photo posted on Instagram that tags @CampariCanada and #NegroniWeekCA2020, so show the world your Negroni creations this week and help support a good cause!
