Sipping Spotlight: Miami’s Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Company

Consider this the worst-kept secret in South Beach

One of the best bars in Miami, if not America, is a bar that’s just far enough off the main drag that it could still be considered a secret, just not that much of one. Conceived and operated by award-winning bartender John Lermayer and Dan Binkiewicz along with restaurateur David Martinez, Sweet Liberty brings an intelligent selection of food and drink from sophisticated to simple to downright delicious.

Frequently named on the World’s 50 Best Bars, there is a pedigree at Sweet Liberty that hasn’t managed to get to their head.

Sweet Liberty is one of those bars that relies on a tightly knit team that knows how to please a crowd, a spirits selection that has earned worldwide acclaim thanks to Lermayer’s obsession for scouring the planet for the rarest of rare, and of course skilled bartenders that can effortlessly serve up some of the best cocktails around.

More than two dozen cocktails are divided into two signature categories: Fancy and Classy. On the fancy side think things like St. Germain and Sherry, while the classy side are more whisky and tequila. Both menus make ample use of garden-fresh ingredients, from cucumbers to fennel seed. Of course, the menu rotates with the seasons, so there is always something fresh and interesting to try.

One of the nice things about Sweet Liberty is they’ve maintained a reasonable and well ranged happy hour from 4pm-7pm, which gives newcomers and returning guests the chance to try new cocktails at a fraction of the price. Of course, if you’re a night owl then they’ve got your back too, staying open and pumping out the hits until 5am.

If you ever find yourself in Miami, make your way over to Sweet Liberty, grab a seat at the bar and enjoy one of the best cocktail experiences in the world.
