Quite possibly the nerdiest bar in Canada, if not the world.
There’s something special about a bar that caters to a crowd that feels more at home at a cosplay convention than a nightclub. While, yes that is a drastic over generalization of the broad set of people that walk through the doors at Storm Crow, the reality is it’s a bar that fully embraces its nerdy side.
The original Storm Crow Tavern opened on Vancouver’s Commercial Drive, which is the perfect location for a bar that houses giant heads of Cthulhu and a collection of Star Wars blasters. The bar became an instant hit thanks to the unpretentious attitude, the ability to spend hours playing a massive collection of board games.
There are now three total locations of the Storm Crow brand (two in Vancouver, one in Toronto) and each still retains that eclectic vibe. Patrons come to enjoy a casual round of Cards Against Humanity or spend hours on more complex role playing games. Fortunately, there’s a strong rotating craft beer list to go along with the hours of gameplay, and menus items like the Teenage Mutant Deep Fried Pickles or the Dungeon Burger.
There are share cocktails, with some impressive presentation, like the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. Or if you’re feeling brave, servers will present you with a 20-sided die, which determines your fate when it comes to one of 20 randomly selected shots. Land a 20 and you even get to keep the shot glass!
Anytime we’ve been inside (any location) the room is packed full of smiling faces. It feels like a place where you’re welcome to spend hours just playing games with friends. There’s a genuine fandom here that’s hard to replicate, or put into words.
Storm Crow is absolutely a must visit if you’re in Vancouver, just try not to claim our favourite board game while you’re there!
