Halloween isn’t just for the kids, in fact I’d argument many adults get into the spirit more so than they ever did when they were younger. With that being the case, there are a wealth of Halloween themed cocktails out there, and no adult Halloween party would be complete without one. We’ve scoured the collective knowledge of past and current bartenders to find some of the best options for serving up at your next party:
The Bacardi Zombie
This is a classic tiki cocktail that was created by the legendary Donn Beach back in 1934. We’ve taken liberties with the original recipe and tweaked it; do be warned, it may taste sweet, but it’s an absolute killer.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz BACARDÍ Superior
- 1.75 oz BACARDÍ Black
- 1 oz triple sec
- 2 oz orange juice
- 1 oz lime juice
- 1 oz Simple Syrup
- 0.25 oz grenadine
Method: Pour all ingredients into a shaker full of ice and give it a go. Then strain and pour into a highball glass filled with ice. Give it a stir with a bar spoon and garnish with a cherry and orange slice.
Corpse Reviver #2
There are two versions of the corpse reviver, but the second one is universally accepted as the better of the two options.
Ingredients:
- 1 oz. gin
- 1 oz. Lillet Blanc
- 1 oz. Cointreau
- 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 1 dash absinthe
Method: Shake all ingredients together with ice in a cocktail shaker; strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange peel.
Vampire Kiss
While there are a number of variations on cocktails called “Vampire Kiss”, this one keeps it simple and to the point, while maintaining a great overall profile.
Ingredients:
- 2 oz. Vodka
- 2 oz. Chambord
- 3 oz. Cranberry juice
Method: Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled martini glass and serve.
Black Widow Martini
If you are looking for something sweet but still gives off that dark, broody aesthetic then this martini will serve you well.
Ingredients:
- 1.5 oz black rum
- 0.75 oz crème de cacao
- 1 cup ice
- Black food colouring
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Method: Add black rum, crème de cacao, ice and 1 or 2 drops of black food colouring to a martini shaker. Shake well. Meanwhile in small bowl, add brown sugar and 1 drop black food colouring. Mix with fork until all sugar is black. Wet the rim of a chilled martini glass with water and rim the glass with the black sugar. Strain liquid into martini glass and serve.
Zombie Brain Hemorrhage Shots
If you are more in the mood for cranking it up an notch and doing shots, Celebration Generation has created a twist on an old classic in their Zombie Brain Haemorrhage shot.
Ingredients:
- Peach Schnapps
- Creme de Menthe
- Baileys Irish Cream
- Grenadine
Method: Pour Peach Schnapps into a shot glass, about half way full. Add a splash of Creme de Menthe in next, it should sink to the bottom. Add a dash of Bailey’s to form a layer on top and a trickle of Grenadine. Drink at your own risk.
