Steamworks, while one of the longest standing breweries in Vancouver, has been on a bit of a roll lately with the release of some stellar seasonal and flagship beer. Nothing highlights this fact better than the recently released Flagship IPA, which won Best In Show at the most recent BC Beer Awards.
It looks as if Steamworks is looking to keep the high going, with the announcement of the first release from their barrel program: a barrel aged Imperial Stout. Aged in Bourbon barrels, it pours near black with a thick tan head. Aromas of vanilla and oak give way to robust flavours of bourbon and chocolate.
Now if you think the Flagship IPA has been hard to come by, don’t expect this Stout to be any easier. The beer will be available the first week of December in extremely limited quantities at select private liquor stores. However, bottles will be exclusively available at 12pm on Friday November 25th at the Steamworks Brewery and Taproom – 3845 William St. The taproom will also have a very limited number of kegs of the new stout and will be serving glasses of it until the kegs are tapped.
Basically, if you are loving Steamworks right now and want to see what they’ve been up to with the barrel program, I’d suggest hitting the taproom up on Friday, try a sample and grab a bottle or two for cellaring.
